Last June, Solange referred to the album on Instagram as, “ a project on identity, empowerment, independence, grief, and healing.” The track list seems to reflect those themes with titles like “Interlude: The Glory Is in You,” “Don’t You Wait,” “Don’t Touch My Hair,” and “Where Do We Go.” Coinciding with the album, Solange also unveiled a free digital book of poetry and lyrics on her website, here. A new release was expected in 2015, but was pushed to 2016. Luckily, the band will be wetting our whistle August 12th with the release of a 1991 live performance. Dexter's singing is better and brighter, and he throws away fewer of the words (something he has done on earlier albums). There has been much improvement all around. With the release of this new album, I am delighted to be proven wrong.
